Thylacines (Thylacinus cynocephalus) are marsupials like kangaroos, meaning they carry their babies in a pouch on their belly. Thylacines used to be widespread throughout all Australia and Tasmania, but the usual greedy, careless habits of humans like hunting and introducing invasive species drove them to extinction. The last wild thylacine was shot and killed around 1930. Or at least, the last known one...
